Life is a runway of experience; in the hassle of keeping up with the several shows, it can be quite demanding to look your best, acquire a luxurious appearance with the constant financial threads or get the proper directives on how to look rich. A lot of us want to look rich and classy on a budget but we often do not know how to acquire that.
Let’s have a small chit chat before I dive into the helpful tips, on how to look rich and dress like a millionaire on a budget. I used to have no sense of fashion and wasn’t rich enough to afford luxurious clothes. I had bills to pay, and I bet everyone does, as I am not alone on this.
I used to be the kind of person who went with the vibe of “as long as it’s comfortable, then it is fine.” While there’s nothing wrong with comfort, this meant if I could wear pajamas to an event, I would.
But after acquiring a level of success, confidence, and self-love, more than ever, I decided to invest more into my physical appearance and the way I looked, I wanted to have a sense of dignity with my appearance and from that whole experience, I have learned a lot on how to look rich without robbing a bank!
You don’t have to break the bank to look like a million bucks, there are so many ways you can style yourself to make you look classy, expensive, glamorous, get a hang of how to look rich and I will be sharing every single step with you today!
A lot of us struggle with the question of “how to look rich?” Many people, especially young adults, believe that spending huge sums of money on clothing and accessories would automatically make them look rich. Well, while there’s a level of truthfulness to that, I’d like to believe that money isn’t all that’s needed.
People associate money with success; a lot of people believe that to look rich, you have to be rich. But then, over and again, I have met people who aren’t so rich, yet, they have never failed to look cool.
And on the flip side, I have met super-rich people, but on the first impression, would make you think they were living below the U.S. average income. So, then, you’d agree with me that appearance really matters. Okay! Let’s dive right in on how to look rich and classy on a budget.
1. Understand Your Fabrics
There are different kinds of fabrics. And each fabric has a unique type of maintenance, styling and sometimes usage. If you do not know your fabrics, you could go to a fabric store or ask your tailor.
Knowing your fabrics gives you an idea about what to buy. Polyester, Nylon, and Rayon – all man-made fiber – won’t hang properly on your body like natural wool or cotton fabrics.
There are times when I change my outfit for an event at the last minute because I suddenly realize that the material reflects a poor taste. Also, place great importance on the color of your fabric. I will discuss this under another outline.
2. Tailor Your Clothes
Rich people wear fitted clothes. Wearing too big or small outfits never gives off a good first impression, except you’re going for a natural baggy look in casuals for a quick errand.
When you have a new outfit or design, take them to a tailor and let them get your measurements, and ensure the clothing is shaped to fit your body type and size almost perfectly. Why? Fitted clothes look better and more put together on your body.
You should build a good relationship with your tailor. If you do not have a tailor already, ensure you get one based on reviews or referrals within your budget.
3. Quality Over Quantity
Being tight on cash can make it somewhat difficult to get quality outfits, but there’s always a loophole for everything. So please take your time shopping and look around the clothing shops near you for the best they have.
Also, check out clearance sales at the end of a season. You get quality outfits for a very affordable price. You necessarily don’t have to buy so many outfits at once. If you could buy them bit by bit, go ahead and purchase. But, don’t be lured into buying many low-quality outfits. Instead, save up and get the good ones.
Avoid buying trending clothes, as you are most likely shopping with a tight budget. Furthermore, trends will come and go after a while, and the clothes will become useless. Instead, get timeless clothes and watch your pockets breathe when trends pass.
4. Get Tasteful Accessories
Accessories are the primary ingredients of your outfit. With the wrong choice of accessories, you risk ruining your look. You may think suitable accessories cost a lot, and you’re right.
Go to jewelry shops or a local jeweler in your area, or look for small businesses that make jewelry. You’d be surprised by the kind of treasures you’ll find in unlikely places.
After taking our time to pick your outfits, ensure you get the best accessories to match them. Your necklace, rings, and so on should work with your chosen outfit.
5. Save Up By Looking For The Best Deals
This isn’t as easy as it sounds. First, you’d have to rigorously search out the best deals online and offline where you could get good clothes at affordable prices.
You could check out thrift stores for affordable second-hand clothes, they are life savers, and besides, no one can guess that your dress is thrift if you don’t announce it.
It’s nothing to be ashamed of; I always do it. I have a small friend who struggles to find her size online and offline. Thrift is her best friend, and she always looks good wearing them. A bonus in wearing thrift is that you hardly run across someone wearing the same outfit.
6. Take Care Of Your Clothes
Taking care of your clothes regularly is one of the best ways to look your best. Iron your clothes carefully and systematically with the right temperature. Crisp and neatly iron shirts and trousers send a signal of wealth and elegance.
Truth be told, you can never look wealthy in crumpled and rough shirts. Wash your clothes with detergents that’ll ensure that the colors aren’t washed away. These things are vital to your goal on how to look rich.
Also, shoes are very important. Spend and invest in shoe-shining kits. There’s no excuse for leaving your home with dirty shoes. No excuse at all. And for storage, ensure that you store your clothes properly in the right and required temperature.
7. Pay Attention To Details
The whole idea of how to look rich essentially hinges on how much you prioritize details. For guys, your outfits should be carefully chosen from your ties to your cufflinks, and for the ladies, your shoe size, earrings, etc.
Also, your color combination is of importance. You should ensure that your colors aren’t carelessly picked. Certain colors project maturity. Take out time to study what colors suits you, and you’ll be fine.
8. Get Quality Leather Goods
Leather shoes, bags, and purses create an aura of wealth around you. But, you can’t look rich walking around with a pair of old, worn-out leather. So, for a start, you could do Brown Oxfords.
You can get high-quality leather at thrift shops. Try to go back a few decades and try vintage bags too. Store them properly too. Don’t let water ruin your leather belt, bags, shoes, and wristwatch.
9. Pay Attention To Grooming
There’s no excuse for poor grooming. Every detail on your body should look its best. Your hair should be washed, conditioned and neatly styled.
Your nails, both finger and toenails, should always be clean and neatly trimmed whether you prefer to wear them long or not. Never look untidy. You can’t look wealthy if you can’t take care of yourself.
Do not neglect your dental hygiene either. White teeth add to the beauty of blinding smiles; invest in a dentist if you can.
10. Avoid Logos
As flashy and fun as logos can be, they can also be very distracting. When they are logos plastered all over your outfit, it draws attention away from the look and focuses on the brand.
There are certain rumors that brands with quality outfits don’t crest huge logos on their clothes. So instead, opt for brands with a custom and unique style that separates them from other designers and speaks for itself.
11. Wear More Black
Readers: How do you look rich?
Afamuche: Wear more black (just for the laughs)
Yep! I love black a lot. Black portrays maturity and confidence. For men, black gives an irresistible elegance that reflects classiness. And for the ladies, you know black adds this spring to your step.
Also, the color black is a very noticeable color and sets you apart when amid a large number of people. If you want to look all good and classy without breaking the bank, I suggest you look into having more black outfits.
12. Get Your Hair Styled
Having an excellent hairstyle is a typical mannerism of wealthy people. Your hair shouldn’t look rough or disheveled. You’ll never look cool or rich if your hair looks unkempt.
Moving around with messy hair shows that you don’t care about your physical appearance and don’t take your hygiene seriously. This would put people off at first sight.
If you’re going for a beautiful, messy look, visit a professional stylist to handle that. For most people, hair is the yardstick for judgment. So get a good haircut, make a beautiful hairstyle, and you’ll be fine.
13. Get A Quality Watch
Watches have a way of adding a beautiful finishing touch to one’s outfit. However, a poorly designed wristwatch is a turn-off and has the capability of ruining your whole outfit.
Leather wristwatches will never disappoint you, but you can wear a wristwatch made with any material as long as it works perfectly with your outfit.
Rocking a quality wristwatch, no doubt, adds spice to your dressing, giving you that elegant and confident appearance needed.
14. Get Serious About Skin-Care
Oh! This sounds like the difficult one, but it’s not. Makeup is terrific as they highlight your beauty and bring out your creativity, but they don’t treat bad skin. Rich people are often concerned about their skin and would pay any amount to buy the latest skincare products or visit a dermatologist.
However, the truth is that skincare doesn’t have to be that expensive. You can naturally get rid of wrinkled skin by eliminating certain bad habits and adopting new ones, like quitting smoking.
Remember, your skin is often a reflection of your internal health. The healthier you are, the more radiant you will become. Good skin naturally portrays you as rich.
15. Work On Your Manners
It doesn’t matter how elegant and rich you look if your attitude and disposition reek of disrespect. So remember to accompany that look with great character and respect when you dress well. It doesn’t matter how good you feel; if you put others down, you’ll ruin everything you’re trying to achieve with your looks.
16. Improve Your Knowledge On Topics
Rich people don’t talk too much. And also, they pick the kind of topics they talk about. You become more cultured when you open up your mind to learn about different subjects.
The rich are willing to invest a lot in education, do the same for yourself. You need to be able to join in on meaningful conversations when you find yourself in specific environments.
17. Polish Your Vocabulary
I know we all have our natural way of speaking due to our environment or personalities. Still, it won’t hurt to polish your vocabulary. Make a conscious effort to use uplifting words and cut down on cursing. Try to learn a new word daily; it can be fun too.
Be assertive too with your words and arm yourself with a healthy vocabulary to be able to hold a conversation with anyone and deliver your point across effectively.
18. Attend Events
The rich organize events and try to mingle as much as possible. If you ever get invited to any, honor it if it’s not conflicting with anything of value to you.
You never know the people you might meet and the opportunity you could get during such events. If for nothing else, you could network and get to make valuable acquaintances.
19. Splurge A Little
As much as you are on a budget, whenever you have unexpected cash, you don’t have a pressing need for, splurge on a timeless expensive item.
It could be a luxury bag, a statement shoe, a beautiful dress, or timeless jewelry. It does not need to be a loud item, just something expensive that you know would last for a long time.
20. Get A Signature Cologne Or Perfume
Smell nice. Not only does it brighten your mood, but your scent can also light up a room. If you want to look rich, then you need to smell nice.
Try not to use perfumes that are harsh as they could irritate others. Instead, use subtle and pleasant smelling scents.
An easy way to create a signature scent is by mixing two different colognes or perfumes to get a mix you’re comfortable with. That’s my trick.
Your smell tells a lot about you. Getting a signature perfume or cologne that commands an elegant personality is key to being perceived as rich.
